FUNDING FOR INNOVATIVE IDEAS TO FIGHT MISINFORMATION ON SOCIAL MEDIA – TRUBLO AIMS TO CREATE NEWS TOOLS USING BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY

The NGI TruBlo (Trust project has its focus on disinformation and distributed trust. The question: How can we develop new tools, platforms or software modules against malicious disinformation? How can we help our communities with new approaches where the content we see can be trusted?

Similar to other NGI projects NGI TruBlo will initiate three open calls, the first one starting in January 2020. The call reaches out to the scientific and startup community for contributions.

As a focus area TruBlo has defined two use cases:

  • Trust and reputation models on Blockchains
  • Proof-of-presence and proof-of-location

Innovations pitched by participants could cover new approaches for trust and trustable platforms – for any kind of content, such as photos, videos or other elements. How can we ensure that these are trustable? How can we “know” that what is communicated is real and not tampered with?

For the second use case a key question is how products or services can provide trustable location information.

In summary: How can we better filter, label or avoid intended misinformation by bad actors? Not an easy task. But the use of blockchain technologies could create entirely different approaches, where the networks build up distributed trust.

To help selected projects NGI TruBlo will provide technology and business support. This includes interaction with users, general support for development and business modelling as well as promotion of successful ideas via multiple channels.

TruBlo is managed by six experienced European partners, complementing each other regarding their expertise: Global payments, international media combined with an innovative infrastructure offering for blockchain and a large network of entrepreneurs and. startups. The partners will support all applicants to get ideas and news concepts out to the world.

Partners of NGI TruBlo are: Alastria (Spain), ATC – Athens Technology Center (Greece), F6S (Ireland), ICCS (Intitute of Communications and Computer Systems (Greece), Deutsche Welle (Germany), Worldline (Spain).
